All things creative have fascinated me since childhood, when I was always scribbling with a pencil or crayon. At first an art instructor, I once shared the joy of self-expression with youth, some homeless with severe emotional challenges, until I earned an MA in Communication Arts from the U of Michigan, and moved to Chicago to begin creating in film and broadcast. At first, I was assistant to the broadcast director at renowned ad agency Foote, Cone & Belding, and then I produced commercials for international client P&G at Euro RSCG Tatham, before I became an independent contractor, writing and producing longer–format film and broadcast, besides commercials—some award-winning—and traveling to LA and NYC. I crewed on three feature films: for Paramount, Columbia Pictures and Warner Bros. After 15 years of creating what sells, I returned to my home state of Ohio to be a Creative Director for an NBC affiliate WNWO.
I’ve gradually realized my strength and passion is writing as an art form. Especially since I was single and supporting myself when I struggled to establish my career, I’ve developed a deep empathy for women working on their own. I love writing fiction about women who fight to survive and hopefully triumph in my industry largely controlled by men. I also write non-fiction, because I’ve discovered it can also be an effective means to communicate my truth—and ideally advocate social justice. My purpose in championing women fits me like a tapered glove. I can’t think of anything more meaningful to me. Incidentally, delving deeply into this important subject has helped resolve my own issues in living in survival mode for years. Today, I’m married and enjoying life with my husband Lee, who supports my constant writing, and our pet beagle Daisy in Cincinnati, Ohio.
During my experience as a copywriter and writer/producer of short films and commercials, I’ve developed a strong foundation in writing to appeal to particular audiences. I’m currently seeking representation for my new novel Radiant Exposure, about a filmmaker who risks her life to fight for justice on behalf of victims of violence, when her own life is threatened. In preparation for its publication, I’ve written a partial draft of a possible sequel. Recently, I’ve self-published a non-fiction book Women Who Walk the Talk to inspire women’s authentic self-expression, and a children’s book Randy Find His Way Home, both available on Amazon. Not yet published, I've applied my brand of humor in writing a non-fiction book about women’s dilemma relative to the men in our lives. My former blog Subtext of Sexuality is on Wordpress. I also enjoy writing poetry relevant to women. Immersed in women’s advancement, I 've volunteered in supporting women and I have experience in public speaking. I'm looking forward to hearing from you if my work appeals to your tastes and preferences and I'm available to share information you may require to consider representing me as my future literary agent.
